Day of the Death / Día de Muertos

9:30 a.m.

One of my favorite holidays here in México is the “Day of the dead”, a holiday where families get together for the only purpose of remembering the ones that aren’t here with us anymore. One of the main characthers that are involved in this celeration is “La Catrina” or the “Lady of death”, she is a reminder that someday we'll be remembered.

I’m lucky to be surrounded by talented and inspiring people, and in order to celebrate my love for design and my culture, I invited one of my favorite Mexican Illustrators, Ster Aguirre, to collaborate with me and do the make-up for a photo shoot about “La Catrina”, dressing up in traditional clothes, hope you enjoy this photos. Thanks to Ster Aguirre for letting me be her canvas. If you want to see her work, I highly recommend click here.

  10. Tomorrow, on the 1st of November, we celebrate "The day of the dead", we go to the cemetery, clean the graves, put flowers, candles, we sit and talk about the dead. It's very peaceful.

  18. You look absolutely incredible in these photos, Monica! I've never seen anything like your make-up, it's beyond perfect for the Dia de Muertos and you styled your outfit perfectly to go with it... And in spite of all of that, what I'm most impressed by is your beautiful hair! You should wear it long more often, it's just gorgeous :)
